KEEP YOUR WORD
"The second principle of GENXJACK"
Lesson 002
Trust
When I was younger, I thought trust came from being talented.
I thought people trusted the strongest guy.
The smartest guy.
The most successful guy.
I was wrong.
Trust has very little to do with talent.
It has everything to do with consistency.
Think about the people you trust the most.
It's probably not because they impressed you once.
It's because they did what they said they were going to do...
over...
and over...
and over again.
That's how trust is built.
One kept promise at a time.
The interesting thing about trust is that it works just like a bank account.
Every time you keep your word, you make a deposit.
Every time you break your word, you make a withdrawal.
Eventually...
people stop listening to what you say.
They simply look at your account balance.
Can they count on you?
That's the question.
Your reputation isn't built by your intentions.
It's built by your follow-through.
One of the greatest gifts you can give another person is certainty.
The certainty that if you say you'll be there...
you'll be there.
If you say you'll do it...
you'll do it.
If you make a promise...
you'll honor it.
People don't need perfect friends.
Perfect spouses.
Perfect leaders.
They need dependable ones.
That's why the second principle of GENXJACK is...
KEEP YOUR WORD.
Because presence creates opportunity.
Consistency creates trust.
Every time you do what you said you would do...
you make another deposit into the relationship.
Trust isn't demanded.
It's accumulated.
So here's my question for you.
Who in your life needs to know that your word still means something?
Then don't tell them.
Show them.
Keep your word.
REMINDER
Integrity isn't what you say.
It's what you do after you've said it.
