Lesson 001

People think "Show Up" is about being on time.

It isn't.

It's about becoming someone others can trust.

When I was fourteen years old, I met a man named Dave.

He was five or six years older than me.

We met in a gym in Ventura, California.

Dave had strengths where I was weak.

I had strengths where he was weak.

We trained together.

We pushed each other.

We became brothers.

Looking back, I don't remember the workouts nearly as much as I remember one simple truth.

Dave always showed up.

He never gave speeches about commitment.

He didn't try to impress anyone.

He simply did what he said he was going to do.

Again.

And again.

And again.

I didn't realize it then, but Dave was teaching me something much bigger than how to lift weights.

He was teaching me what character looks like.

Character isn't loud.

Character isn't posted on social media.

Character isn't something you announce.

Character is revealed when people know they can count on you.

Years later, I realized something.

The people who have changed my life weren't necessarily the smartest...

the strongest...

or the most successful.

They were the people who consistently showed up.

For me.

For their families.

For their work.

For their word.

That's why the first principle of GENXJACK isn't "Win."

It isn't "Be Strong."

It isn't "Never Quit."

It's something much simpler.

Show Up.

Because every promise...

every friendship...

every marriage...

every business...

every dream...

is built one ordinary day at a time.

You don't become dependable overnight.

You become dependable by showing up today.

Then tomorrow.

Then the day after that.

One day becomes a week.

A week becomes a year.

A year becomes a life.

Dave showed me that.

Now it's my turn to pass it on.

So here's my question for you.

Not yesterday.

Not tomorrow.

Today...

Did you show up?
